Major upgrades coming to Route 24

Central Illinois residents driving on Illinois Route 24 will be safer because Senator Dave Koehler secured $114 million to expand the highway from two to four lanes between Kingston Mines and Banner.

“Getting Route 24 expanded to 4-lanes has been one of my biggest priorities in the Senate,” Koehler said. “That's why I fought to secure $114 million in the Rebuild Illinois Infrastructure Plan to expand the highway between Kingston Mines and Banner."

The highway running from southern Peoria County into Fulton County is known for heavy traffic and frequent fatal car accidents.

“This is a major step in making this road safer for the thousands of drivers using it to get to and from work,” Koehler added.

The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that work on the project is slated to begin in 2021.
